Layers is a natural media painting app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Built on the feedback of hundreds of mobile artists, Layers packs in everything you need to be creative on the go. Whether youre an experienced iPhone artist or a creative user looking to doodle, Layers is for you!

Layers allows you to add up to five layers to each drawing, opening a whole new creative space. You can add a layer from a photo to trace your subject, or use the eraser tool to remove parts of one layer and reveal details of the layer beneath! A full-featured eraser gives you fine grained control over layer transparency, and a smudge tool allows for tons of unique painting styles! Want to add photos to your drawings? Layers allows you to position and scale the photos you add and see how theyll appear on top of your existing work. Once youre done painting, you can email your drawing as a PSD file with the layers intact.

Pros and cons of Layers app for iPhone and iPad

Layers app good for

I consider this one to be the best drawing app for iPhone/iPod Ive used, and I tried quite a few. Even more fun to use than "Brushes", witch now becomes my second best. Having Layers did the trick for me, so did the selection of brushes and the high quality export. Also, having the brushes and color panel tabbed is a time saver, and the recall of the tools with a shake (even very small) of the iPod while drawing integrates well in my workflow; more so than having that shake make an undo. I never tought I could make a 7 by 7 in., 300 dpi photoshop file with 5 Layers on my iPod. Last but certainly not least, it runs very smoothly on my 1st gen iPod Touch. Strokes smoothness are comparable to what I get from "Brushes" app, and "Layers" app is over all very responsive.
I just got a new iPod touch and downloaded this app. I really like it. You can just do simple drawings if you want or you can be more advanced. It is easy to learn to use. I am going to have fun playing around with it.
Interesting concept! I dont quite understand how to use it though its kind of confusing! Should have a begginers manual. Overall amazing but quite pricey! If ur a pro u should get this but for begginers Im not to sure add more instuctions and info and Ill give 5 s
As an artist I am looking for an app that I could create real work using my iPod. Layers is an excellent tool. I had such high hopes trying out the new smudge feature, but alas it darkens so much that its almost useless... That being said... Layers is a very powerful tool and is a must-have painting app for the iPod :)
I just deleted my "Brushes" which I payed 4bucks for This one is cheaper than "Brushes" and has more options-Multiple Layers and all the options u can do with the Layers(Duplicating,Merging,Lotating,Trensparent), it has more brushes, and it even has the finger tool which u cannot find when you purchase 4bucks on "Brushes"
Love it ! The only thing I would wish for is the option to Constrain lines as my finger isnt steady enough to draw straight .

Some bad moments

Brushes and layer tools are very nice but I hope the app is updated to fix the smudge tool since it can not be used as it is now. The smudge tool darkens the paint to black even when you try to blend two light colors such as white and yellow.
CRASHES when I import a low res or high res photo.. DUMB waste of money.. DO NOT SUPPORT CR@P products like this.. Fix this and redeem yourself.. I will now try the other Layer app I been eyeing.. Last update for this was 2011, GO FIGURE...
The finger tool didnt doing what i expecting. Some kind strange behavior, like burn + smudge tool in Adobe Photoshop. I think its a bug. Also no layer transparency. But like feature of .psd exporting and last colors remembering. Also it will be cool to make the same with brushes. Not for $4,99.
When will I learn to read the reviews before downloading crappy apps. This app is difficult- not user friendly. I threw away 5 bucks. Save your money.
The app seems ok but everytime I try to use a photo in a layer it keeps crashing. Ive even tried rebooting my iPhone and I keep getting the same outcome. Very disappointing.
Good concept and good implementation however.... Eh hem.... Needs an ios6 update AND biggest complaint... Max resolution of 1024? The new iPhone cameras can handle far beyond that which pretty much crushes the resolution on my photos Ive taken. I like this app I do but it feels like it was made for an iPhone 3G and then was abandoned. Developers... Hook us up w some updates yo!
